Food Assistance Programme-II

Food Assistance Programme-II

Following the successful implementation of the Ramadan Food Assistance Programme 2025, Care World, with the generous support of Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW), launched Food Assistance Programme-II to extend relief to additional vulnerable families across Jammu and Kashmir.

Under this phase, we distributed 1,460 additional food kits to families who had either missed out during Ramadan or were identified through our extended post-Ramadan vulnerability assessment. This critical initiative aimed to support food-insecure households continuing to face economic hardship due to inflation, unemployment, and post-winter recovery challenges in the region.

The distribution covered five key districts:

  1. Baramulla
  2. Budgam
  3. Srinagar
  4. Pulwama
  5. Shopian

Each food kit was designed to meet the essential nutritional needs of a family for approximately 2–3 weeks. Kits included flour, pulses, cooking oil, sugar, tea, salt, and other regionally appropriate dry food items. Beneficiaries were selected through a transparent and community-led process, prioritizing widows, orphans, people with disabilities, elderly individuals, and economically marginalized households.

Impact Summary:

  • Total Kits Distributed: 1,460
  • Estimated Beneficiaries: Approx. 10,220 individuals (based on average household size of 7)
  • Distribution Period: May 2025
  • Mode of Delivery: Through local distribution centers and direct delivery in remote areas

Our team, in coordination with local volunteers and community heads, ensured that the entire process was conducted smoothly, maintaining dignity, impartiality, and transparency. Monitoring mechanisms were in place, and field visits were conducted during each distribution to ensure proper documentation and real-time issue resolution.

Challenges & Lessons Learned:

Despite occasional logistical hurdles such as road accessibility in remote hilly terrains and weather disruptions, the overall programme was executed successfully. Lessons from this extension phase will help us in better pre-positioning stock, refining beneficiary databases, and enhancing coordination with district-level stakeholders for future responses.

We sincerely thank Islamic Relief Worldwide for their continued support and trust in our work. Their funding and guidance enabled us to expand our reach and alleviate hunger for hundreds of families beyond the Ramadan period.

Care World remains committed to serving vulnerable communities in Jammu & Kashmir with compassion and accountability.
